Hunter S. Allen, Jr. is of counsel with Bendin, Sumrall & Ladner and has specialized in the defense of medical malpractice actions for physicians and hospitals for his entire 45-year legal career. He has represented The Emory Clinic, the 800-plus member physician practice group of The Emory University School of Medicine, since 1977, and has earned an AV Rating by Martindale-Hubbell in recognition of his commitment to excellence in the practice of law.
Mr. Allen was one of the first lawyers in Georgia to specialize in health care defense, and has successfully tried hundreds of medical malpractice actions throughout the state of Georgia. Over the years. he has earned a reputation among healthcare clients, lawyers and judges as an exceptional trial lawyer, talented and tenacious in his cross-examination and litigation skills. Mr. Allen has been appellate counsel in numerous ground-breaking cases for healthcare providers on issues such as: Informed Consent; the “Right to Die”; “Good Samaritan” laws; Medical Peer Review; Voluntary and Involuntary Commitment; and Reporting Child Abuse. He has authored many articles and is frequently invited to lecture at legal and medical seminars. In addition, Mr. Allen has served on the Emory Hospitals’ Visiting Committee and other boards and committees, and donates his time to civic and charitable work in the Atlanta community.
